How to Configure Ivacy VPN on DD-WRT Router

In this tutorial, you will learn about setting up Ivacy VPN on your DD-WRT router.

Before you begin, please make sure:

  • You must have an active internet connection.
  • VPN Supported Router.
  • Own a premium Ivacy account (If you do not already own one, you can buy a subscription from here)

You can select the respective tab for the desired protocol.

Before making a connection, you must ensure that you have got a functional internet connection, a router that supports PPTP, and an Ivacy VPN account. A VPN connection does not work on an ISP modem. In order to make your VPN connection work, you need to connect another router with your modem.

Let’s start.
Make an Ethernet connection or a wireless connection from your router to your computer. Follow
1a if you are connecting Ethernet router
1b for wireless connection.

Configure VPN on Router 1

  1. Open the ‘Basic Setup’ tab of the DD-WRT router. You can see a window with different fields. From the ‘Connection Type’ drop down menu, select the ‘PPTP’.Configure VPN on Router 2
  2. For the ‘Use DHCP’ option, select ‘Yes’.Configure VPN on Router 3
  3. In the ‘Gateway (PPTP Server)’, type the name of the server that you desire to use. (List of all Ivacy VPN servers is available here). Write ‘Username’ and ‘Password’ in the respective fields. In the additional PPTP option field, write ‘refuse-eap’.Configure VPN on Router 4
  4. Navigate to ‘DHCP Server’ and ensure that it is ‘enabled’. Click on ‘Apply Settings’ and then click ‘Save’.Configure VPN on Router 4
  5. Go to menu bar and click ‘Status’. Then click on ‘WAN’ tab. Click ‘Connect’.Configure VPN on Router 6

You are connected with Ivacy VPN. Enjoy Privacy with Ivacy.

Configure VPN on Router 1

To Configure OpenVPN, please follow the given instructions:

  1. Open your DDWRT Control Panel and Select ‘Services’ then go to VPN tab and Enable ‘OpenVPN ClientDD-1
  2. Insert the following info:
    • Enter your desired Country / Server address in Server IP / Name box. Open .ovpn file to get the server address.
    • In the ‘Port’ field, enter 53 for UDP and 80 for TCP.
    • Select ‘TUN’ from Tunnel Device drop down menu.
    • In Tunnel Protocol, select UDP for port number 53 or TCP for port number 80.
    • In Encryption Cipher field, select encryption level AES-256 CBC.
    • For Hash Algorithm, select SHA1.
    • Enable the User Pass Authentication.
    • Enter your email address and password registered with Ivacy.DD-2
  3. Enable Advanced options and insert the following info:
    • For TLS Cipher select ‘None’.
    • In LZO Compression tab select ‘Adaptive’.
    • Disable NAT and also disable Firewall protection.
    • Leave the IP address and Subnet Mask field unfilled.
    • Disable the ‘Tunnel UDPMSS-Fix’ option.
    • For TLS Auth Key, go to the downloaded OpenVPN files. Open the file titled ‘WDC.key’ in notepad, copy all its content and paste it in the TLS Auth Key field.
    • For CA Cert, once again open the downloaded OpenVPN files. Now, open the file titled ‘CA.crt’ in notepad, copy all its content and paste it in the CA cert field.
    • Now, save and apply the settingsDD-3DD-4Note: For some Disabling NAT gives error MANAGEMENT: Client connected from [AF_INET]127.0.0.1:16 so Enable NAT then try again
  4. Now, click on the Security Tab at the top menu bar. Select Firewall tab and disable SPI firewall option. Once again, click on ‘Save’ and ‘Apply settings’DD-5
  5. Now, click on ‘Management Tab’ go at the bottom and click on ‘Save’ and then ‘Apply settings’. You need to reboot your router, once router reboots, open the router panel and click on ‘Status’ and select ‘OpenVPN’.
