Many factors are involved when you experience slow server speed. Follow below mentioned steps to get the maximum speed.
Not every ISP (Internet Service Provider) supports all protocols. If you are facing speed-related issues, consider switching between protocols e.g. PPTP, L2TP, and OpenVPN. It also resolves disconnection issues.
If you are using Ivacy’s Windows application then by selecting protocol type “Automatic”, Ivacy will do this job for you. It will try connecting with PPTP; if it is blocked then it will automatically try to connect with L2TP and so on.
Some routers block PPTP, L2TP and IPsec pass through by default. If changing protocol does not solve your problem, check your router’s Firewall & Security settings and enable them. Antiviruses and firewalls also block PPTP and L2TP; hence, you would also need to allow PPTP and L2TP through your third party antivirus.
If you are located in Europe, you should avoid PPTP as many popular ISPs in Europe block this protocol.
Turn Firewall Off
As discussed, some third party firewalls and routers also block PPTP. Hence, if you are facing disconnection and/or speed issues, disable Firewall (from PC as well as router) and check speed and stability again.
Select Your Nearest Server
Servers work best for the nearest located systems. If you are located too far from a server you may not get high speed from that server. It happens because it takes time for network traffic to travel from your device to VPN server and then to the destination host. Use Ivacy Purpose Selection Tool to find the best server for your location, purpose, internet speed, etc.
P2P File Sharing
We have blocked P2P File-sharing on some of our servers as per changing Global Web Policy.
P2P/ File sharing is allowed with our service on the below mentioned shared servers.
- Costa Rica
- Saudi Arabia
NOTE: If you want to use this service, it is not necessary for you to be physically present at the above-mentioned locations. You just need to connect to the servers via Ivacy.
Use Purpose Selection Tool
Ivacy has a built-in “Purpose Selection Tool” in Windows Dialer and Android App, which you can use to increase your speed.
If you are using other operating systems like Mac, iOS etc., you may use speed test tool to find out the best server for you as per your location, purpose, internet speed etc.
When encryption increases, speed decreases; therefore, you must keep balance between them according to your use. Every protocol provides different level of encryption. PPTP provides the lowest encryption and hence maximum speed, whereas L2TP provides more encryption and hence lower speed.
Your Internet Connection
Your speed also depends on your actual internet speed. If you are facing speed issues and nothing else works then check your internet speed by following these steps.
- Disconnect VPN and visit www.speedtest.net to check your internet speed.
- Select VPN server location you want to connect as your location and begin test.
- Now connect to VPN and check speed again with the same server.
