There are a few factors that will prevent you from getting high upload and download speeds while using a VPN. To prevent this from happening, here is what you need to do:
Change Protocol
Not every ISP (Internet Service Provider) supports all protocols. If you are facing speed-related issues, consider switching between protocols e.g. TCP, , UDP, L2TP, or IKEV. It will also resolves disconnection issues.
If changing the protocol does not solve your problem, check your router’s Firewall & Security settings and enable them.
Disable Firewall
A few third party firewalls and routers block certain protocols. So if you are facing disconnection and/or speed issues, disable your Firewall (from PC as well as router) to see if it makes a difference or not.
Select Your Nearest Server
The closest available servers you connect to will offer the best possible speeds. If you are located too far from a server you may not get high speeds, this is because it takes time for network traffic to travel from your device to the VPN server, and then to the destination host. Use Ivacy Smart Purpose Selection feature to find the best server for your location.
P2P File Sharing
We have blocked P2P File-sharing on some of our servers due to changing global web policies.
P2P/File sharing is availalbe with Ivacy VPN on the following shared servers.
- Canada
- UK
- Brunei
- Bulgaria
- Costa Rica
- Denmark
- Germany
- Latvia
- Luxembourg
- Netherlands
- Pakistan
- Panama
- Russia
- Saudi Arabia
- Sweden
- Turkey
- Venezuela
NOTE: If you want to use this service, it is not necessary for you to be physically present at the aforementioned locations. You just need to connect to the server of your choosing via Ivacy.
Use Smart Purpose Selection
Ivacy has a built-in “Smart Purpose Selection” feature which will let you choose a particular use case to get the best possible experience, which will translate to better speeds if you have selected the right purpose.
Encryption
With better encryption your internet speed will drop; therefore, you must maintain a balance. Each protocol provides different level of encryption. So make sure you use the right protocol for the best possible speed i.e. UDP.
Your Internet Connection
Your speed will also vary depending on your actual bandwidth. If you are facing speed issues and nothing else works, then check your internet speed by following these steps:
- Disconnect VPN and visit www.speedtest.net to check your internet speed.
- Select the VPN server location you want to connect to in order to begin the test.
- Once connected to a VPN server, check your internet speed again with the same server.
